Anota Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 8, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Anota (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Anota iPhone and Apple Watch app (the App) or visit Anota pages on ruiper.es.
1) Who we are
- Controller: Rui Peres
- Location: London, United Kingdom
- Contact:
me@ruiper.es
2) How Anota works
Anota is an offline-first padel scoring and insights app. It does not require an Anota account or login.
The iPhone and Apple Watch each keep their own local copy of the information needed to record sessions. The paired devices may exchange scoring information through Apple’s Watch Connectivity service. When iCloud is available, selected Anota data can also synchronize through Apple’s CloudKit service so it is available across devices using the same iCloud account.
Recording a session does not depend on an internet connection, CloudKit, RevenueCat, or the iPhone being nearby.
3) Information handled by the App
A) Sessions, scoring, and optional participant information
Anota stores information you enter or generate while using the App, including:
- session identifiers, dates, timestamps, duration, and scoring format;
- sets, games, points, server and court-side choices, pauses, corrections, undo actions, and session completion;
- optional point classifications, answers, and skips;
- optional participant names, playing level, team, court side, and per-set lineups; and
- preferences needed to operate and restore the App.
This information is stored locally on your devices. Session events, people, and roster information may also synchronize to your private iCloud/CloudKit database. It is not placed in a public CloudKit database.
Each device’s local copy of Anota is bound to the first iCloud account connected to it for synchronization. Signing out or switching to a different iCloud account pauses synchronization and keeps the local records on that device. Synchronization can resume when the original account returns. Anota does not transfer those existing local records to a different iCloud account.
B) Apple Health and HealthKit
HealthKit access is optional and controlled by Apple’s permission screens and system settings.
With your permission, Anota may:
- save a workout from Apple Watch with Anota and padel metadata; and
- read workouts, heart rate, active energy, distance, and steps to add context to your padel sessions and insights.
The exact data types requested are shown in Apple’s Health permission interface. You may grant, deny, or later revoke each permission through Apple system settings.
HealthKit information is processed on your devices. Anota does not copy HealthKit samples, heart rate, calories, or other health-derived information into its CloudKit database, RevenueCat, advertising systems, or a developer-operated server. Apple Health performs its own storage and synchronization under your Apple settings.
Anota does not use HealthKit information for advertising, marketing, or data mining, and does not sell it.
C) Purchases and Pro entitlement
Payments are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. We do not receive your payment-card details.
Anota uses RevenueCat to validate purchases and determine whether Anota Pro is active. RevenueCat receives purchase history, receipt and entitlement information, an automatically generated anonymous App User ID, and related technical information needed to operate and analyse the purchase service. Anota does not send session, participant, or HealthKit information to RevenueCat.
See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy and Apple’s Privacy Policy for details about their processing.
D) Optional local weather
Local weather is off by default. If you enable it in Settings and grant location permission, Anota uses your iPhone’s current location while you use the App to request today’s and tomorrow’s local forecast from Apple Weather through WeatherKit. Apple receives the location needed to provide that forecast under Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Anota uses this location for the forecast request and does not save the coordinates in its databases or preferences, attach them to a session, or send them to CloudKit, RevenueCat, or a developer-operated server. The forecast is held in memory for display. Anota does not continuously track your location or request background location access.
You can turn Local weather off in Anota Settings to remove the forecast and stop new requests, or revoke Anota’s location permission in iPhone Settings. Recording sessions and using the rest of Anota do not require location access.
E) Support communications
If you contact us, we receive the email address and information you choose to include. Please do not send sensitive health information or complete session data unless it is necessary for your support request.
F) Website analytics
Anota pages on ruiper.es use Fathom Analytics to measure aggregate website visits. Fathom does not use advertising cookies or build cross-site advertising profiles. It briefly processes limited technical information, such as an IP address and user agent, to create privacy-focused aggregate measurements. See Fathom’s Privacy Policy.
The App itself does not contain developer-operated advertising, behavioural analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs.
4) Why information is processed
Where applicable under UK GDPR or GDPR, information is processed to:
- provide the App and features you request, including local recording, paired-device transfer, iCloud synchronization, and Pro access (contract);
- access HealthKit data after you choose to grant Apple permission (consent and provision of requested fitness features);
- use location after you enable local weather and grant permission to provide the requested forecast (consent);
- respond to support requests and protect the reliability and security of the App and website (legitimate interests); and
- comply with legal, accounting, App Store, and purchase obligations (legal obligation).
5) Sharing and service providers
Information is shared only as needed with:
- Apple, for App Store distribution and payments, private CloudKit synchronization, Watch Connectivity, HealthKit/Apple Health, and location-based Apple Weather forecasts;
- RevenueCat, for purchase validation, entitlement management, and purchase analytics; and
- Fathom Analytics, for aggregate analytics on the Anota pages of
ruiper.es.
We may also disclose information if required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users, the App, or our legal rights.
We do not sell personal information, use it for third-party advertising, or use the advertising identifier to track you across apps or websites.
6) Retention and your controls
- Local Anota data: remains on a device while the App’s data remains there. Removing the App or its data removes that device’s local copy, but does not necessarily remove information already synchronized to iCloud or workouts stored in Apple Health.
- CloudKit data: remains in the private iCloud database associated with the account used for synchronization, subject to deletion events, your iCloud settings, and Apple’s retention practices. Switching accounts pauses synchronization of the device’s local records. Reinstalling Anota may restore information synchronized to the account used by that installation.
- Participant names: removing someone from Anota’s current People directory does not rewrite their name out of historical session and roster records.
- HealthKit data: is managed through Apple Health and Apple system privacy controls. Revoking permission stops future access but does not itself delete workouts already saved in Apple Health.
- Weather location and forecasts: location coordinates are not saved by Anota. Forecasts are held in memory and removed when you turn local weather off or the app process ends. Apple handles forecast requests under its own privacy policy.
- Purchase information: is retained by Apple and RevenueCat according to their policies and legal obligations.
- Support messages: are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain support records, or meet legal obligations.
Because Anota has no developer account that identifies you, we generally cannot locate or remotely delete information held only on your devices, in your private iCloud database, or in Apple Health on your behalf. You control those copies through the App and Apple’s device, iCloud, and Health settings. Contact us if you need help understanding the available controls.
7) Security and international transfers
Anota uses Apple’s platform protections for local storage, private CloudKit data, HealthKit, and purchases. No system is completely secure, and synchronization services can fail or become unavailable.
Apple, RevenueCat, and Fathom may process information in countries outside the United Kingdom. Their policies describe their locations and transfer safeguards.
8) Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to request portability or complain to a data-protection authority. These rights can be limited where we cannot identify or access data held only in your private Apple services.
To make a privacy request, email me@ruiper.es.
If you are in the United Kingdom, you may also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) through its complaints page.
9) Children
Anota is not designed to collect children’s personal information. Minors should use the App only with permission from a parent or guardian where required by applicable law. If you believe a child has sent personal information through a support request, contact us so we can address it.
10) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Anota, its service providers, or legal requirements change. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
