Growing Pains

For now only as a reminder, but a topic I would like to expand in the future is on growing pains. A concept that when applied to businesses, means that the further you expand (clients, users, data) you might start feeling some discomfort. This comes from the realisation that something needs to change, in order to cope with the present reality. Either it’s processes, team setup, or tech infrastructure. In previous startups I never felt real pain, even when there was clear growth. Babylon is the clearest example of that. There were signs that things needed to change. But I was for the most part shielded. When problems came, I was at least two levels down from the heat source. It was never pain, rather some uncomfortable reality I had to deal with.

In a company of 8 people, there’s no shield, there’s no place to hide. Everything is served raw.
