Meditation
The idea of meditation is to not suppress bad thoughts, or distractions, but rather acknowledge them. It’s the difference between feeling anxious and acknowledging the existence of anxiety. It’s a quite simple idea, but quite difficult to do it intuitively. It takes a lifetime of practice. A simple exercise I have been trying every day is to just acknowledge when I leave my desk and when I return. So when I am about to get up, I acknowledge that I am doing so, rather than just going about my life. So far I haven’t been able to do this once. The teacher (Andy from Headspace) stated that to be able to just do this once or twice throughout the day is a massive achievement on its own. I believe him.
Practising meditation helps one be more present in the moment, which leads to a more fulfilling life.
