Prove X

Recruitment is hard - there’s no size fit all. Even the most accommodating processes will never make everyone happy. At Babylon we allowed a candidate to apply with either a) our task, b) a task for another company that fit a few requirements c) open source work. But one could argue that someone with a kid, might not even have time to do any of the above. So I thought about the following as a technical phase:

“Prove that you know X. You have 90 minutes”

With some good guardrails in place - to make sure the candidate stays on target - this would allow the candidate to do whatever they want to show off their skills.

I shared this on Linkedin and some people found the word “prove” too harsh. I disagree. But I am ok with changing it to “demonstrate”, or “show”.
